Shake It Out

How It Works

Introduction

Tell the group you’re going to “shake out” tiredness or stress. It’s short, silly, and effective.

Execution

Everyone stands up. Start with your right hand: shake it 8 times while counting out loud. Then left hand (8), right foot (8), left foot (8). Repeat with 4, 2, and finally 1 shake per limb—speeding up each round. Count together and have fun with it!

Debrief/Reflection

Briefly notice how energy and mood have shifted. No reflection needed unless you want to.

Tips & Variations

  • Works great with music or clapping rhythm.
  • Keep it playful – it’s not about coordination.
  • For remote groups: encourage cameras on if possible, but allow people to participate however they feel comfortable.
