How It Works

Introduction

Invite everyone to check in by saying one word that describes how they’re arriving or feeling right now.

Execution

Go around the circle (in-person or virtual) and let each participant say just one word. No explanation needed. It’s okay to pass.

Debrief/Reflection

After the round, briefly acknowledge any noticeable themes (e.g., “I noticed many said ‘curious’ or ‘tired’ – thank you for sharing.”)

Tips & Variations

  • Use a virtual whiteboard or chat function for remote groups.
  • You can adapt the prompt: “One word that describes your current energy”, or “One word you want to bring into this session”.
  • Keep it snappy and non-judgmental – the goal is connection, not explanation.
